DESCRIPTION:Virtual\nContinuing Competency Points awarded \nPlease join us for a vibrant discussion on the evidence for Supported standing\, Supported stepping and Power mobility for children with non-ambulant cerebral palsy: an F-words focused discussion. Ginny Paleg and Roslyn Livingstone are pediatric therapists with evidence-based research on children with non-ambulant cerebral palsy and have more than 30 peer-reviewed publications on adaptive seating\, standing\, stepping and power mobility device use. \n \n  \nThe target audience for this presentation is pediatric physical therapist\, PTA’s and students for this virtual event with two dynamic speakers: Ginny Paleg and Ros Livingstone. The presenters will demonstrate evidence-based practice for non-ambulatory children and the research behind supported standing\, supported stepping and powered mobility. \nObjectives:\n1. Identify three outcomes for supported standing that are supported by the strongest research evidence\n2. Describe how supported stepping devices can help address at least 3 different F-words goals.\n3. Describe three reasons why a child might need both supported and stepping devices in early childhood\n4. Describe how power mobility interventions might help address Fitness\, Functioning and Future goals. \nPresenters: \nRoslyn Livingstone OT\, MSc (Rehabilitation Science)\nGinny Paleg PT\, MPT\, DScPT \nRoslyn Livingstone is an occupational therapist based in British Columbia\, Canada\, with more than 30 years experience working with children with complex disabilities. She has a Masters in Rehabilitation Science from McMaster University\, and is currently pursuing doctoral studies at University of KwaZulu-Natal\, South Africa. She is an Investigator with BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute\, and a Clinical Assistant Professor at University of British Columbia. Ros collaborates with international colleagues on research and education primarily related to children with non-ambulant cerebral palsy and has more than 30 peer-reviewed publications on adaptive seating\, standing\, stepping and power mobility device use. \n  \nGinny Paleg is a Pediatric Physical Therapist\, Early Intervention Specialist\, International Speaker and Researcher\, and an expert in GMFCS Level IV and V mobility. She is dedicated to enhancing the lives of children with severe motor impairments through evidence-based practice\, innovative technology \, and early intervention. Her clinical focus is centered on children at GMFCS Levels IV and V\, ensuring they have the support and equipment necessary to explore their world with dignity\, agency\, participation and all the F-words. She has decades of experience in the field\, with work that bridges the gap between clinical practice and peer-reviewed research. She has published extensively on the efficacy and implementation of: static and dynamic standers\, gait trainers/supported stepping devices\, early power mobility and power wheelchairs. She is passionate about sharing knowledge to improve global standards of care. This had led her to be an invited speaker at prestigious conferences worldwide. Her goal is to empower therapists and families by providing them with the data and tools they need to advocate for optimal mobility outcomes. \n
